In this article I will show you how to moved your database from one hosting to another.
Export the WordPress Database
- On your current hosting account, open the wp-config.php file. Located in this file is the name of the database that you need to export
- Most cPanel based hosting accounts should provide a copy of PHPMyAdmin to access your database. You can use this to export the database as a .sql file.
- From the left select the database name and click the Export tab.
- Make sure all the tables have been selected. Leave the default settings alone and check Save as File. Save file on your Desktop.
Import into New Database
In your NEW cPanel: Navigate to the database category and click PHPMyAdmin, you are going to Import the .sql file you downloaded into it.
Choose your database, from the left hand side of the page. To confirm open the wp-config.php file. Located in this file is the name of the database that you need to import.
Along the top of the screen, click the Import tab
Click the Browse button, and locate the file on your computer.
Once you select the file, click Go to start the import.
View your Site
Once you have completed these steps, view your site in your browser to make sure everything looks correct and is functioning properly.
If you get a DUPLICATE error message. Click the Database name again and scroll down and check “Check All” the tables and select “Drop” you will be taken to another screen to confirm the deletion of your tables. Select Yes. Now follow the Import process again.
